Free Elderly Assistance Day, this past June.
For one day in June, volunteers fanned out across Vernon to help seniors with the practical things — yard work, light cleaning, grocery runs, and small repairs around the house. No charge, no paperwork, no catch.
It runs on people showing up. Neighbours who gave up a Sunday morning, and a refreshment stand built the night before out of cardboard and paint.
